Maria Zamarreño

Label design ‧ Corporate Identity ‧ Illustration

María Zamarreño is a Spanish winemaker from Bierzo, a region in the northwest of Spain where she makes her wine from the autochthonous grape Mencía.

She calls her series „Hic sunt dracones“ (Here are dragons), a phrase used for the unknown monsters and creatures in ancient cartography. Referring to these „dracones“, the classic and ancient label designs she likes, the wild beauty of the Bierzo region, and all the animals that live in her vineyard, we created a little chimera and an elegant label and corporate design. It is based on Spanish, opulent labels from the early 20th century, but combined with bright colours and embedded in modern compositions.
